In today’s world that is dominated by social media it is no wonder that there are so many impostors out there. People can take pictures in any kind of situation to suit the image they want to portray and those that don’t know them personally might believe that that is how their life is. Image rules the world today and people will do anything to have the “right” image.
Women and men will take 1000 selfies just to get the right angle and lighting in hopes of coming across as cute, sexy or hot. Instead they should just be more focused on finding themselves and loving themselves for who they are. Anyone that can’t accept you for who you are shouldn’t be in your life to begin with.
That is just one example of people just talking the talk or how I like to put it just talking shit. There are examples of this everywhere we look. Rappers who rent cars, mansions, girls and jewelry so they can portray the rich, playboy lifestyle in their videos and interviews. Even regular people who buy everything on credit to portray they are ahead in life but if that next paycheque doesn’t come then they are screwed. Or we have all seen that guy that post pictures with money and other goodies. Let’s be real for a moment, there are no rich people that behave like that.
So why do people do this in the first place? I feel like this has to do a lot with the kind of society we have built for ourselves. It is a society that places tremendous value on image and if you don’t have the “right” image then you won’t fit in. No one wants to be the one that doesn’t fit in and it is much easier to just pretend to be something than to work your ass off to earn something.
I feel like the first step towards walking the walk is doing the work to find out who you really are and who you really want to be. This can be hard as we are programmed to want to act and be certain things by society. It takes a lot of hard work to find yourself and accept yourself. Until you can do this it will be hard to be able to walk the walk and stop talking shit. If you don’t know who you are then how could you possibly ever walk the walk?
Once you know who you are and who you want to be then you need to evaluate where you currently are and be ok with where you are at. Not feel upset or angry or ashamed that you are not yet where you want to be. For example, if you want to be a millionaire but you currently only have $100 to your name then be ok with that. We all have to start somewhere. The important past is that you know where you want to be and you believe in your ability to get there.
Get clear on who you are, who you want to be and on how you plan to get there. If you need to ask for support to get there then do it. Be ok with where you are at and let others know you are ok with it but not content. Ok and content are two different things. Being ok with being there but working hard to get somewhere else is better than being content and not doing anything to change your situation.
If you can do those three things, who you are, who you want to be and accepting where you are at, then you will be well on your way to walking the walk.
Until next time. Stay Free. Stay Curious.
